On Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, Hope Animal Rescues will host their first-ever music bingo night at the Alton-Wood River Sportsman’s Club in Godfrey. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the bingo starts at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $25. All proceeds go toward the rescue’s mission to save dogs from shelters and animal control facilities on the day they are to be euthanized.

“We try to always help where we can,” said founder Jackie Spiker. “Every donation we take pays for vet bills, power, food, repairs, whatever to take care of the dogs.”

The music bingo night will raise money for the dogs’ care. Hope Animal Rescues has 87 rooms. The dogs have their own rooms and a yard where they can play, as well as a nature trail where volunteers can take them on walks.

Spiker noted that while these amenities “mimic comfort,” it’s not the same as a loving home. The rescue’s goal is to pair every dog with an owner.

When a dog comes to Hope Animal Rescues, the animal is taken to the vet. The rescue pays for whatever level of veterinary care the dog needs, which can cost upwards of $1,000.

The staff members and volunteers also get to know the dogs, so they can pair them with prospective owners whose personalities are compatible with the dogs. Spiker emphasized that they truly do “love” the dogs, and because of this, they want to make sure the animals can experience good lives in adoptive homes.

This mission is at the heart of the music bingo fundraiser. A grant pays for the staff members’ wages, so all donations and proceeds from fundraisers go directly to the dogs’ care. Spiker hopes to raise money at the bingo, but she also believes it will simply be a fun, exciting night for attendees.

“It’s just a fun night. There’s no pressure,” she said. “I think it’ll be fun for everybody, and it’s a good way for us to get our feet wet and see how this goes. I think it’ll be a good event.”

Tickets include four bingo cards for 10 games, a dauber, and draft beer and soda. People are encouraged to bring their own food, or you can purchase snacks from the kitchen. There will also be a bar available.

You can buy extra bingo cards for $5 per set. During the games, a DJ will play snippets of popular songs from across the decades. Participants will mark that song on their bingo cards. The first person to call bingo is the winner.

A 50/50 raffle will round out the night. Spiker emphasized that the goal is to have fun and enjoy the company of like-minded animal lovers.

She added that Hope Animal Rescues will host their annual gala in November. This Paris-themed dinner is “a little high-end,” featuring a red carpet, a catered meal, and a live band and auction. Spiker looks forward to this fundraiser, as well; their goal is to raise $25,000 to carry them through the year.

“We do love [the dogs], but we still want them to go home,” Spiker added.
