Jerald Downs Gives Back at East Alton-Wood River High School

EAST ALTON/WOOD RIVER - Jerald Downs wants to give back.

For his hard work, Jerald Downs is a Fischer Lumber Student of the Month for East Alton-Wood River High School.

Downs, a senior, serves his school community as a senior mentor. In this role, he guides underclassmen and helps these younger students navigate high school.

He has played varsity baseball since his freshman year. It takes a lot of responsibility to manage sports and school, but Downs does so gracefully.

Downs has a part-time job and plays American Legion baseball. He also participates as an East Alton Fire Department explorer, which allows him to learn more about the local fire department while helping others.

Downs has made it a point to get involved in his community on several levels. He tries to help people and give back whenever he can.

In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with his friends, hunting, and playing airsoft and video games. He has big plans for life after high school. His teachers and loved ones can’t wait to see him succeed.

“[I plan to] become a career firefighter,” he shared.

Congratulations to Jerald for this recognition from Fischer Lumber and East Alton-Wood River High School!
