ALTON - An Alton man was charged Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, with felony drug, weapons and sex offender registration offenses after a multi-agency investigation into suspected drug distribution at a Hillcrest Avenue residence, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. The Madison County Circuit Court charged Corey L. Ammons after an investigation led by the Sheriff’s Enforcement Team, known as SET. Authorities suspected Ammons of distributing methamphetamine and other controlled substances from a residence in the 3300 block of Hillcrest Avenue in Alton. The sheriff’s office described him as a registered sex offender who was not in compliance with registration requirements.

The Glen Carbon Police Department, Alton Police Department and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations assisted with the investigation.
Based on evidence developed during the investigation, agents obtained and executed a search warrant at the Hillcrest Avenue residence. The following items were seized:
• Approximately 300 grams of methamphetamine
• Approximately 35 grams of cocaine
• Two firearms
• Approximately $37,000 in U.S. currency
On Friday, October 2, 2026, Ammons was charged in Madison County Circuit Court with the following offenses:
• Unlawful Failure to Register as a sex offender — Class 3 felony
• Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine (100–400 grams) — Class X felony
• Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Cocaine, 15–100 grams) — Class X felony
• Felon in Possession of a Weapon (two counts) — Class 3 felonies
The warrants were signed by the Honorable Judge Nielsen. Detention was sought by the State and granted by the Court. Ammons has been remanded to the Madison County Jail.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
