ROXANA - Mekhi Shorter rushed for a school-record 467 yards and six touchdowns Friday night, Oct. 9, 2026, powering Roxana to a 49-20 Metro Valley Conference victory over Marquette Catholic at Charles Raich Field.

Shorter carried the ball 28 times in his best game of the season, surpassing the previous school single-game rushing record of 305 yards set by Andruw Ellis in 2023.

Marquette Catholic’s Jhordyn Croft led the Explorers’ rushing attack with 177 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.

The Shells led 27-14 at halftime and outscored the Explorers 22-6 in the second half. Croft’s touchdown run cut Marquette’s deficit to 35-20, but Roxana scored twice in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Marquette's Don’tay Longstreet caught five passes for 69 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Toby Eberlin, and rushed for 49 yards. Dierking and Hayes added five tackles apiece for Marquette.

Roxana improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Marquette fell to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
