IHSA PLAYOFFS --- REGIONAL QUARTERFINALS
In a Class 1A regional quarterfinal play-in game on Saturday, Breese Central shut out Carlyle 4-0, while in Class 2A, Granite City nipped Carterville 2-1, while Civic Memorial eliminated Jersey 3-1.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
In tournament matches played on Saturday, Carrollton lost to Civic Memorial 25-20, 25-22, but bounced back to defeat Highland 25-13, 25-19, and Jersey 25-18, 25-16,
Columbia also took two of three, winning over Quincy Notre Dame Catholic 25-13, 25-14, and Red Bud 25-14, 25-19, then lost to Lombard Montini Catholic 25-20, 25-21,
Jacksonville won a pair of three-set matches, defeating Highland 25-19, 22-25, 16-14, then came from behind to get past Jersey 25-27, 25-19, 17-16.
In a regular season match, Breese Mater Dei Catholic swept past visiting Cor Jesu Academy Catholic of Affton, Mo. 25-17, 25-23.
