EDWARDSVILLE — The Glen-Ed Pantry has raised $2 million toward its $3 million capital campaign for a new 9,000-square-foot facility. Today, the pantry launched a year-end push to raise the remaining $1 million by December 31, 2026.

The pantry broke ground on the new building in May and plans to open it in summer 2027. The facility is designed around the neighbors the pantry serves and the volunteers who serve them and includes:

“Our current building was never designed to be a food pantry, and we outgrew it years ago,” said Jane Ahasay, executive director of the Glen-Ed Pantry. “Every dollar raised between now and the end of the year brings us closer to a space that matches the need in our community.”

For 40 years, the Glen-Ed Pantry has provided food, clothing and emergency assistance with dignity and respect to families in the Edwardsville School District. That includes Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Hamel, Worden, Moro and Prairietown. Beyond groceries, they provide personal hygiene products, school supplies, clothing, holiday food and utility assistance for neighbors.

“This community has already shown up in a big way. Two-thirds of the way there is a remarkable achievement,” said Libby Levin, Glen-Ed Pantry board president. “Now we’re asking neighbors, businesses and civic groups to help us finish strong. A gift of any size before December 31 helps put a new home for this pantry within reach.”
