The Shells led 21-13 after the first quarter and 35-28 at halftime. Roxana extended its lead to 42-35 through three quarters before both teams scored 13 points in the fourth.
Roxana coach Wade DeVries credited his team with making enough plays on offense and defense to win in a difficult road setting.
Coach DeVries praised the offensive line for creating opportunities to run both outside and inside.
"Our line's ability to generate movement also allowed us to vary our approach rather than rely on one area of the field for our offensive success," the coach said.
The coach also credited Mekhi Shorter with another standout performance. He had multiple touchdowns once again in the game.
The playoff victory was significant for the program, DeVries said. He said the team was ready for the matchup against Hillsboro. He said the team would benefit from another week of practice for the next round of the playoffs.
Roxana next plays at Monticello at 2 p.m. Saturday. Monticello defeated Olympia 34-0 on Saturday.
