In a statement seeking members’ support, Smallwood-Bey cited his four years of service and described the election as a decision about the branch’s direction.

“This election is about more than personalities,” he said. “It is about the direction of our branch, the strength of our organization, and whether we will continue building on the work already underway.”

Smallwood-Bey said restoring the branch’s NAACP Youth Council was among his first priorities when he took office. He said he has worked to create opportunities for young people, strengthen community partnerships, advocate for jobs and apprenticeships, and support families.

“Leadership is not something you claim when an election approaches,” he said. “Leadership is something you demonstrate through consistent service, sacrifice, accountability, and results.”

Smallwood-Bey said members deserve leadership that is present, engaged, transparent and committed to service. He identified civil rights, fighting discrimination, youth empowerment, expanded economic opportunities and community unity as his continuing priorities.

“I have never claimed to be perfect, but I have remained committed to the work,” he said. “I ask our members to examine the record, consider the commitment, and look at what we can accomplish together.”
