From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2026, community members can stop by the church at 717 State Street in Alton to shop and enjoy everything the event has to offer. Proceeds from the Christmas Bazaar go toward Helping Hands Ministry, which serves families in need throughout the Riverbend region. Parishioners Gloria Gray and Susan Schwegel agree the event will be a fun chance to do some good.
“We have been known as the friendliest parish in the area. We’re small but mighty,” Schwegel said. “It's just a wonderful day. We so much appreciate the vendors.”
Throughout the day, you can shop craft and artisan vendors with a variety of products, from sourdough bread to hand-carved pens and more. Granny’s Attic Sale will offer furniture, linens and other items that parishioners donated toward the sale.
There will be a $1,000 raffle, a silent auction and a basket raffle. With over 100 baskets, Gray and Schwegel agree that everyone can find something they’ll enjoy.
From 9–11 a.m., the church will serve biscuits and gravy. The Knights of Columbus, led by Schwegel’s husband, will sell hot dogs and hamburgers from 12–2 p.m. The Altar Society will hold a bake sale throughout the day with plenty of homemade desserts.
While the bazaar promises to be a lot of fun, the duo emphasized that its goal is to support families in need. Helping Hands Ministry works hard to provide food and financial assistance to local community members.
“We take great pride in the help that we can give and what we can do with helping people. It’s a blessing,” Gray said. “I just wanted to make note, for the Helping Hands Ministry, this is the only fundraiser we have all year. It’s this money and the donations that we get every Sunday, and some parishioners give monthly donations to help. We’d really appreciate a big turnout and crowd.”
Gray and Schwegel are proud of the event and eager to mark the 27th year. They noted it’s been “wonderful” to carry on this “tradition” over the years, and they hope the 27th annual Christmas Bazaar is as fun as ever.
“It’s just wonderful to have everybody come together and bring the community, let the community know that they’re welcome,” Schwegel added. “I think it’ll be a fun, fun day.”
