20-Year-Old Held Without Bond In Fatal Shooting

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS - A 20-year-old Cahokia Heights man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy last weekend in Cahokia Heights, after investigators with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis pursued about 60 leads in the case.

Cleveland J. Ware, 20, was booked into the St. Clair County Jail at about 3:45 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2026, and was being held without bond. The arrest follows the July 25, 2026, shooting death of Lamerion L. Davis, 16, of Washington Park, in the 1100 block of Camp Jackson Road near a McDonald’s in Cahokia Heights, Illinois.

Davis suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the case information.

The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office filed charges against Ware on Thursday, July 30, 2026. The charges are first-degree murder, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

At the time prosecutors filed the charges, Ware was at large, according to the provided information.

The Major Case Squad identified Ware as a suspect in Davis’ death. Twenty detectives worked on the investigation.

These charges, as well as the statements made herein, are based upon probable cause. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
