3 Charged In Madison County Stolen Vehicle Possession Cases

EDWARDSVILLE – Local authorities have charged three individuals in separate but similar felony cases of possession of stolen vehicles.

Scott H. Butler, 30, of Shipman, was charged in two separate felony cases of motor vehicle offenses filed on Dec. 16, 2025.

Butler was charged in the first case with a Class 2 felony count of offenses related to motor vehicles after allegedly knowingly possessing a stolen 2006 Kawasaki Ninja ZX1000 motorcycle bearing an Illinois registration number on Oct. 2, 2025.

In the second case, Butler faces another count of offenses related to motor vehicles and one count of burglary, both Class 2 felonies. On Nov. 14, 2025, Butler reportedly entered a building on Stieglitz Road in Dorsey, Ill. with the intent to commit a theft and knowingly possessed a stolen Kubota tractor.

Both cases against Butler were presented by the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force, and he was granted pretrial release from custody.

Everette L. Hines, 69, of Granite City, was charged in another unrelated case of stolen vehicle possession also filed on Dec. 16, 2025. Hines was allegedly knowingly in possession of a stolen 2013 Hyundai Elentra on Oct. 3, 2025 and was ordered released from custody pending trial in the case presented by the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force.

A Missouri man was charged in a separate felony case filed on Dec. 18, 2025 stemming from another incident of stolen vehicle possession.

22-year-old Shontrez C. Martin is accused of knowingly possessing a stolen 2019 Jeep Cherokee bearing a Missouri registration number on May 3, 2025. The Granite City Police Department presented the case against Martin, who was also granted pretrial release from custody.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
