MADISON COUNTY — An adult and a juvenile were killed and three other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash late Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, on southbound Interstate 55, according to Illinois State Police. The cause remains under investigation.
The crash happened at 11:55 p.m. near milepost 33, between Livingston and Hamel, according to a state police crash report.

An adult was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Another juvenile and two adults were airlifted to area hospitals with various injuries.
Both southbound lanes were closed until just before 4 a.m. The state police investigation is ongoing.
