Alhambra Woman Charged With Fleeing Granite City Police At High Speeds

GRANITE CITY – A local woman faces felony charges in Madison County after allegedly fleeing at over 100 mph from an attempted traffic stop in Granite City.

Heather A. Clark, 26, of Alhambra, Ill., was charged on July 9, 2026 with two Class 4 felony counts of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer.

Clark allegedly knowingly attempted to flee and elude a Granite City Police officer who had signaled for her to stop her vehicle on May 20, 2026. Charging documents note she reached speeds at least 21 mph above the legal speed limit and disobeyed two or more traffic control devices during her attempted flight from the officer.

According to the state’s petition to deny Clark’s pretrial release from custody in this case, the incident unfolded after a Granite City Police officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle with “registration issues.”

“Prior to activating lights and sirens, the vehicle drove directly toward the officer in the opposite lane, allowing him to identify the defendant and capturing her on dash camera video,” the petition states. “Defendant failed to yield, instead ignoring multiple stop signs, then accelerating to 108 mph in a 55 mph zone.”

Clark then drove on the shoulder of the road to pass other motorists before the officer terminated the pursuit for public safety, the petition states. At the time of this latest offense, Clark was reportedly out on pretrial release from custody in multiple prior cases.

The Granite City Police Department presented the latest case against Clark, who was remanded to jail for her initial court appearance in this case.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
