Alton Godfrey Rotary Club Honors Dosso and Hance as May Students of the Month

ALTON - Samantha Dosso and Tyler Hance, Alton High School seniors, were honored as Students of the Month for May by the Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club.

Samatha Dosso is the daughter of Bruno and Vicky Dosso of Alton. She ranks third in a class of 485 students, is a member of the National Honor Society, an Illinois State Scholar, a member of Mu Alpha Theta, and Platinum Alpha, and is a Silver Medallion recipient. For two years, she earned a Scholar Athlete award in varsity volleyball, and earned a place on the President’s List at Lewis and Clark Community College.

She has been a member of the Student Council and the Red Bird Nest for four years serving as a leader and treasurer of the latter group during her senior year. She has been a member of the Varsity Volleyball team for four years earning recognition as a Scholar Athlete for three years in that activity. She also served as team captain for several years and earned selection as Athlete of the Month for that activity several times.

Dosso has been a member of the Physics, Spanish, and Biology Clubs for four years. As a student leader she has been involved in numerous community service activities and projects that include Salvation Army Bell Ringing, Multiple Sclerosis fund raising, a variety of community projects including many service hours associated with her membership on the Student Council and National Honor Society.

Dosso plans to attend Missouri State University and major in Biology and Biochemistry. Her ultimate goal is to become a Physician.

Tyler Hance is the son of Christopher and Amy Hance of Alton. He ranks among the top ten students in his class, and has consistently earned a place on the school’s High Honor Roll as well as on Lewis and Clark’s Dean’s List. He is an Illinois State Scholar, and because of his high academic standing served as a Junior Marshall at graduation ceremonies last year.

Hance was selected as a Scholar Athlete in varsity volleyball and soccer at Alton High as well as being a recipient of the Silver Medallion Award at recent ceremonies recognizing high school scholars for high academic achievement.

Hance has been a member of the Student Council, the school’s varsity soccer and volleyball programs, the school’s Rocketry Club, and the Red Bird Nest. He participated in the Saturday Scholar program for two years, and was a member of a number of student organizations that included the Physics and Spanish Clubs as well as Mu Alpha Theta.

After school hours Hance has worked at various part time jobs and plans to attend the University of Illinois and major in Aerospace Engineering.

Dosso and Hance will receive recognition plaques presented by the President of the Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club. As Students of the Month they will be eligible to be considered for the Student of the Year award and Scholarship.
