Alton High Student Nathanael Rich Honored As A January Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club Student Of The Month
Rich receives recognition for academic excellence and community service at the Rotary Club of Alton-Godfrey meeting this January.
ALTON - Nathanael Rich of Alton High School and James Sehorn of Marquette Catholic High School were honored as Students of the month for January 2026 at a regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Alton-Godfrey at the Gentelin’s on Broadway Restaurant.
Rich, a 17-year-old senior at Alton High School, is the son of Joshua and Kelly Rich. He expressed his gratitude to the Rotary Club for the honor and acknowledged their continued support of students and the community. Nathanael also shared appreciation for his parents, crediting them for their constant encouragement and guidance throughout his life.

Being selected as student of the month represents both academic achievement and a commitment to service and leadership. Nathanael has attended Alton schools his entire life, beginning at West Elementary in the gifted program, continuing through Alton Middle School, and now completing his senior year at Alton High School. He has noted that the Alton School District has played an important role in shaping his educational experience by providing strong academic support and opportunities for growth.
Athletics have been a significant part of Nathanael’s life. He has played baseball for most of his childhood and has also participated in sports such as golf and pickleball. Through sports, he has developed discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, skills that have contributed to his success both in and out of the classroom. At Alton High School, Nathanael is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, a math tutoring organization. Through these groups, he has had the opportunity to serve fellow students and give back to the school community. He shared that these experiences have helped him grow as a leader and reinforced the importance of helping others. One of Nathanael’s most meaningful service experiences has been volunteering with the Overnight Warming Location, where he assists in preparing food and serving individuals experiencing homelessness during cold weather. This experience has had a lasting impact on his perspective, deepening his appreciation for service and strengthening his desire to support those in need.
Looking ahead, Nathanael plans to attend the University of Missouri and pursue a career in physical therapy. After experiencing injuries that required rehabilitation, he became interested in helping others regain strength and confidence following injury or pain. He hopes to combine his interests in science, athletics, and service to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Nathanael concluded by thanking the Rotary Club, his family, teachers, and coaches, and the Alton community for their continued support. He expressed his commitment to continuing to serve and give back to the community that has played such an important role in his development.
