Alton Man Detained In Armed Assault Case

ALTON – A convicted felon from Alton man remains in custody after allegedly pointing an illegally possessed firearm at another individual.
Byron T. Lacey, 33, of Alton, was charged on Nov. 3, 2025 with one count each of felon in possession of a weapon (a Class 3 felony) and aggravated assault (a Class A misdemeanor).
On Nov. 1, 2025, Lacey allegedly possessed a Ruger .38 Special revolver which was unlawful for him to possess as a felon previously convicted of theft over $500 in a prior Madison County case from 2018. He is additionally accused of using the weapon to assault an individual and place them in reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery.
A petition to deny Lacey’s pretrial release from custody was filed by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. According to the petition, the victim reported Lacey pointed the firearm at her while the two were at her residence.
“Officers located the firearm described by the victim in the area in which the defendant was seated prior to being detained,” the petition states.
The state’s petition was upheld, with a Detention Order filed in this case adding Lacey reportedly pointed the weapon at the victim’s stomach in the presence of her 20-year-old child and another nearby witness. Additionally, the order states Lacey’s history of probation violations indicates an unlikelihood for him to comply with future court orders.
The latest case against Lacey was presented by the Alton Police Department, and he currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
