Alton Man Detained In Sixth Domestic Battery Case
Alton man with extensive domestic violence history faces new felonies after latest alleged domestic incident involving firearm.
ALTON – Alton Police have charged a local resident in his sixth case of domestic battery involving an illegally possessed firearm.

Bura L. Robinson III, 54, of Alton, was charged on Dec. 8, 2025 with his sixth or subsequent offense of domestic battery, a Class 2 felony, and felon in possession of a weapon, a Class 3 felony.
On Dec. 6, 2025, Robinson allegedly made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature against a household or family member on Dec. 6, 2025. He was also reportedly in possession of a Ruger Single-Six .22 caliber revolver at the time of the offense, which was unlawful for him to possess as a convicted felon.
Charging documents note Robinson had been convicted of domestic battery on five prior occasions, including in 1994, 2012, 2014, 2019, and 2020.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to deny Robinson’s pretrial release from custody in this latest case. The petition states that in addition to the battery, the victim also reported to authorities that Robinson threatened her with a firearm, which officers later located.
The state’s petition was ultimately upheld, with a Detention Order stating Robinson “can be heard on video claiming ownership of a firearm” despite being a convicted felon with an “extensive history of domestic violence.” The order also notes Robinson was on probation at the time of these newest offenses.
The Alton Police Department presented the latest case against Robinson, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
