“We definitely back our guys,” said Becky, a long-time member of the VFW Auxiliary for 30 years, who will be there in support of the annual day. She emphasized the importance of the post’s small food pantry, which assists veterans and others facing financial difficulties, including personnel at Scott Air Force Base who may experience delays in pay. She also spoke of the importance of the VFW in support of veterans on a day-to-day basis.

The VFW mission statement is: "To foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans." Post 1308 has always attempted to follow the mission statement for Alton area veterans.
