Alton Woman Charged With Stealing Over $14,000 From East Alton Ice Arena

EAST ALTON – A local woman accused of stealing more than $14,000 from the East Alton Ice Arena as an employee faces felony charges after a “lengthy investigation.”

Kathryn R. McKeon, 39, of Alton, was charged on March 18, 2026 with two Class 2 felony counts of theft of property over $10,000. From Aug. 29, 2022 to April 2, 2025, McKeon allegedly committed a series of acts to knowingly obtain $14,213.36 by deception from East Alton Civic Rink Management Inc.

A press release from the Village of East Alton states East Alton Ice Rink Management Inc. is a private entity that has contracted with the village for over 20 years to manage the East Alton Ice Arena.

East Alton Civic Rink Management Inc. leadership asked the East Alton Police Department “to investigate embezzlement/theft by one of their employees, Kathryn R. McKeon,” the release states. The case was later presented to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office “after a lengthy investigation.”

The release concludes: “The Village would like to commend the efforts of the East Alton Police Department and the Village Treasurer for their time and effort in investigating this matter.”

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
