Antonini, Stone, Power Tigers Girls Softball Past Quincy In 17-2 Rout

EDWARDSVILLE - Edwardsville scored early and often to beat Quincy 17-2 in the second game of a doubleheader Friday, April 3, 2026, at Edwardsville, with Sophie Antonini and Lily Stone leading the Tigers at the plate and Sammie Herbeck earning the win in the circle.

Antonini had four hits and three RBIs, and Stone added three hits and four RBIs as Edwardsville won by the 15-run rule. The Tigers improved to 12-7 and extended their winning streak to five games, while Quincy fell to 2-7.

"Today was a good day all the way around," Tigers' head girls' softball coach Caty Happe said about the Quincy doubleheader. "From pitching, defense, offense, so it was nice to see everybody get some opportunities, and hit the ball hard."

The Tigers came out from the start and played good, solid, aggressive softball, a style that suits them exceptionally well.

Quincy struck first in the nightcap when Mia Ellefritz doubled to right to open the game, and Avery Hlubek followed with a two-run home run over the left-field fence to make it 2-0.

Edwardsville answered in the bottom of the first. With one out, Antonini doubled down the left-field line and scored on Stone’s double to cut the deficit to 2-1. Maxwell reached on an error by the third baseman, allowing Stone to score the tying run. Another error brought home Maxwell and put Edwardsville ahead, and a third error in the inning pushed the lead to 4-2.

The Tigers added on in the second. Wiley doubled to lead off and scored on Antonini’s RBI double. Burris tripled to drive in Antonini, and Stone singled home Burris to make it 7-2.

Edwardsville broke it open in the third, highlighted by Antonini’s hit that brought in two runs and Stone’s two-run single. A sacrifice fly to right made it 13-2, and Straub later singled home Maxwell for a 14-2 lead.

In the fourth, Maxwell singled home Antonini and Reagan Kolakowski, and Zurleine’s RBI single brought in Ella Wallace with the game-ending run to make it 17-2.

Maxwell finished with two hits and two RBIs. Burris, Straub, and Wiley each had two hits and an RBI. Zurleine had a hit and an RBI, Wilfong and Wallace had a hit each, and Werden drove in a run.

Herbeck went three innings and was credited with the win, allowing two earned runs on Hlubek’s homer and four hits, with three walks and two strikeouts. Makaela Pippins pitched the fourth and allowed one hit while striking out the side.

Edwardsville concludes its home stand next week, hosting Alton on Tuesday, Belleville East on Thursday, and Breese Mater Dei Catholic next Friday. All games are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

First things first, of course, and the Tigers jump back into the Southwestern Conference grind next week, with games at home against Alton and Belleville East.

"It should be good," Happe said. "We're excited to see what the rest of the conference has."
