Attorney General Raoul: Former Metro East Police Officer Pleads Guilty To Theft, Wire Fraud

BRIGHTON – Attorney General Kwame Raoul today announced a former Metro East police officer pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $58,000 from the Alton Police Department Benevolent and Protective Association while employed by the Alton Police Department.

Jeremiah T. Dressler, 42, of Brighton, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, to one count of Class 2 felony theft, one count of Class 2 felony theft by deception and three counts of Class 3 felony wire fraud. Dressler’s sentencing will be scheduled for a later date.

“Members of law enforcement should rightfully be held to a higher standard and expected to follow the laws they enforce,” Raoul said. “I will continue to partner with law enforcement agencies, including the Illinois State Police, to hold public servants accountable when they abuse their positions of trust.”

Raoul’s office charged Dressler in July of 2024 after an investigation by the Illinois State Police (ISP) Special Investigations Unit revealed that Dressler, who was the treasurer of the Alton Police Department and Benevolent and Protective Association, accessed funds from the organization for his own personal use.

Senior Assistant Attorneys General Haley C. Bookhout and Steven R. Sallerson are prosecuting the case for Attorney General Raoul’s office.
