ALTON - Marquette Catholic's Jack Beaber won the discus and also qualified in the shot put for state at the Triad Boys 2A Track and Field Sectional, delivering a performance that his coach said reflected his ability to rise to the moment regardless of classification.
Beaber won the discus with a throw of 49.94 meters. He also finished fifth in the shot put but qualified for state with a throw of 15.37 meters.

"I am super proud of him,” Marquette Catholic Head Coach Billy Sprague said. “We made the jump from 1A to 2A. Jack is that guy; it doesn’t matter whether it is 1A, 2A, or whatever, he elevates the performance every time.”
Sprague said Beaber is not one to congratulate himself after a performance and instead quickly turns his attention to the next competition.
Beaber, a multi-sport athlete at Marquette, “knows what he is capable of,” Sprague said. He was also a standout football player for the Explorers.
Beaber will attend the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and participate in track and field next year.
“He just wants to go to college, study, lift weights, and throw heavy things,” Sprague said. "I think he will have a great future in college."
