Belleville Man Detained, Officer Injured After High-Speed Flight From Police

BELLEVILLE – A Belleville man accused of injuring a police officer and resisting arrest by fleeing at high speeds remains in custody on felony charges.

LeCourtney A. Luckett, 45, of Belleville, was charged with two counts of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer (both Class 3 felonies) and one count each of resisting or obstructing a peace officer (a Class 4 felony) and driving while license is revoked (a Class A misdemeanor).

On Nov. 11, 2025, Luckett allegedly attempted to flee from an officer after being given a visual or audible signal to stop his vehicle, reaching speeds at least 21 miles per hour over the legal speed limit.

Charging documents state Luckett resisted arrest by fleeing from the arresting officer in a motor vehicle, which caused the officer to sustain a bodily injury.

Luckkett's operation of the vehicle, a Dodge Charger, on the public roadway of I-255 in Madison County was reportedly unlawful given the suspension of his license. He had also previously been convicted in 2022 of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer in a prior Madison County case.

The Madison County State's Attorney's Office filed a petition to deny Luckett’s pretrial release from custody, stating that after a traffic stop in St. Clair County, he eluded multiple agencies while fleeing into Madison County.

“He disregarded traffic control devices and traveled at speeds near 90 mph and was eventually spiked,” the petition states. “An officer was injured attempting to deploy spike strips.”

Luckett’s vehicle was eventually disabled, leading to his arrest. He reportedly admitted to the fleeing while in custody, “finding it humorous,” according to the petition. Luckett was on probation at the time of the offense and has a “lengthy history of flight from police, making him a “danger to the community and a flight risk.”

The Illinois State Police presented the case against Luckett, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
