Benjamin Godfrey Mansion Lights Up for Second Christmas
PRIDE Beautification renews festive decorations at Godfrey Mansion, celebrating nearly two centuries of history with community warmth and hundreds of sparkling lights.
GODFREY - It’s about time for PRIDE Beautification to set the Benjamin Godfrey Mansion aglow for its second year. As one of Godfrey’s most treasured landmarks, this mansion has stood for nearly two centuries, and with a few hundred lights and garland, we honor that history with warmth and joy of community.
The initial project that began in 2024 was a collaboration of several Alton and Godfrey businesses and organizations wanting to bring a new, festive look to our Welcome to Alton Sign, the Welcome to Godfrey sign, and, of course, the Benjamin Godfrey Mansion.

What started as a twinkle in someone’s eye quickly developed into a community project led by Pride’s Beautification Christmas committee, VP Natalie Merril, Nancy Elson, and a team of passionate volunteers.
This beautification project has been supported through the generosity of several organizations, that have allowed us to carry on this tradition A shout out of thanks to the Alton Community Service League as our first donor, to the Village of Godfrey for joining in the endeavor with their generous donations, and to Lewis and Clark Community College for ensuring the landscape and bushes looked nicely groomed. Colby Sisk and his landscaping team will be back on the job to make sure all lights are shining, and garland and wreaths are hung to make these landmarks look as stunning as they were last year.
The lights represent more than decoration – they symbolize the pride we all share in keeping our village beautiful, welcoming, and full of life. As the lights come on, may they remind us how bright our community shines when we work together.
To ring in the season, all lights will go live on Thursday, November 20th. We hope you enjoy, and we thank Pride Beautification for their constant eye on beautifying our community and leading the mission to Love Where You Live.
