Bethalto Seeks ITEP Grant for Final Trail Segment
A newly approved grant application could help finish a multi-use trail designed to strengthen walking and biking access along a key village corridor.
BETHALTO — The Bethalto Village Board approved agenda items Monday night, including resolutions involving Motor Fuel Tax funding and finishing a bicycle and pedestrian trail project.

The board approved Resolution 2026-05, a Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) resolution for maintenance under the Illinois Highway Code. The resolution authorizes proposed expenditures of MFT funding for the 2027 calendar year.
The board also approved Resolution 2026-06, supporting an application for an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant.
The grant application would seek funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements along Erwin Plegge Boulevard, including construction of a multi-use trail.
If Bethalto receives the grant, the project would complete the final portion of the trail, according to information presented to the board.
The proposed improvements are designed to improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity along Erwin Plegge Boulevard while providing residents with additional opportunities for walking and biking.
The board also approved a special use permit for 125 West Central Street. The permit allows a tattoo station to operate at The Islands in Bethalto.
