Boil Water Order Issued For 400 Hardin Customers

Illinois American Water imposed the immediate advisory as upgrades continue at the Hardin water treatment plant. Residents are being told to take extra precautions before drinking or cooking.

HARDIN - Illinois American Water has issued an immediate boil water order for about 400 direct water customers in the Village of Hardin because of improvements at the village’s water treatment plant.

Customers should bring tap water to a rolling boil for five minutes before using it for drinking or cooking, according to the utility. The order took effect immediately and will remain in place until testing confirms that water samples meet all drinking water regulatory standards.

The utility said water remains safe for bathing, washing, and other common uses, and pressure impacts are not expected.

After testing is completed and standards are met, customers in Hardin will be notified by Illinois American Water that the boil water order has been lifted.

Customers are encouraged to make sure their contact information is current through the online customer portal, MyWater. Additional details are available on Illinois American Water’s Alerts webpage.

Illinois American Water said it is the largest regulated water utility in the state and serves approximately 1.3 million people. The company said it has about 600 employees and that American Water operates a quality control and research laboratory in Belleville.
