Breese Central Ends Father McGivney Baseball Season With 10-4 Win

Phelps smashes three hits, but Breese Central pulled away Saturday in Glen Carbon, sending the Cougars into the offseason after a strong overall campaign.

GLEN CARBON — Father McGivney Catholic fell to Breese Central 10-4 on Saturday, May 30, 2026, ending its season with a 27-10 overall record and an 8-0 championship mark.

Breese Central moved on to the Greenville Sectional semifinal, where it will face Effingham St. Anthony at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2026. In the other semifinal, Freeburg will play Effingham at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greenville. The sectional championship game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026.

For McGivney, Scott Phelps had three hits in the loss to Breese Central. Patrick Geirer added two hits, while Ty Etcheson had two hits and two RBIs. Isaac Wendler and Jack Hunter each had a hit for McGivney.

The loss closed the season for Father McGivney Catholic, which finished with what was listed as an exceptional 27-10 overall record and an 8-0 championship record.
