Brighton Storage Unit Break-In Yields Felony Charges Against Two

Area man and woman accused of using bolt cutters during Brighton storage unit burglary; weapon and drug possession charges also filed.

BRIGHTON – Two Riverbend residents accused of breaking into a storage unit in Brighton face additional felony charges in Jersey County.

Jared D. Isringhausen, 39, of Bunker Hill, and Terry L. Swan, 43, of Gillespie, were both charged on Jan. 8, 2026, in Jersey County with one count each of burglary (both Class 2 felonies) and felon in possession of a weapon (both Super Class 3 felonies).

Swan was additionally charged with a Class 4 felony count of possession of burglary tools in the form of bolt cutters, while Isringhausen was additionally charged with unlawful possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine, a Class 3 felony.

The two allegedly knowingly and without authority entered a storage unit building in Brighton with the intent to commit a theft after cutting the lock off of the storage unit on Jan. 6, 2026. Both were also accused of possessing a “brass knuckled knife with a 7.5 inch blade,” according to charging documents.

Both Isringhausen and Swan were granted pretrial release from custody with additional conditions imposed on their release. Both have been ordered not to leave the State of Illinois without court permission, refrain from possessing a firearm or other dangerous weapons, and refrain from entering the storage unit facility in Brighton.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
