Budzinski Joins Local Leaders In East St. Louis For Roundtable On Gun Violence Prevention
The discussion followed an East St. Louis shooting last month that killed five people and injured two others.
SPRINGFIELD, IL — Last night, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) joined local leaders for a roundtable discussion on gun violence prevention efforts. The meeting comes in the wake of a deadly shooting in East St. Louis last month that took the lives of five and left two more injured. Prior to the roundtable, Budzinski met with the family of those affected by the tragedy.
“What happened in East St. Louis is something no family or community should have to endure,” said Budzinski. “I am grateful for the opportunity to meet with them to offer my condolences for their loss and discuss how we can work in Congress to prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future.”

The roundtable included local faith leaders, gun violence prevention advocates, city officials, as well as representatives from the local NAACP.
In Congress, Budzinski is a cosponsor several pieces of legislation on gun violence prevention, including the Break the Cycle of Violence Act (H.R. 4103), aimed at establishing community-based Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs that seek to prevent shootings before they happen, interrupt retaliation, and help people at highest risk of violence move toward safety and stability.
