Bus Driver Suffers Arm Bite from Dog
A 64-year-old bus driver was bitten while assisting an elderly man near his home, prompting emergency medical treatment and a police investigation.
ALTON - Emergency crews responded Monday afternoon, Dec. 22, 2025, to a report of a dog bite at 1013 Wallace in Alton, where a 64-year-old female bus driver was bitten on the arm by a mini Australian Cattle Dog.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:31 p.m. on Monday, while the bus driver was assisting an elderly man from the bus to the front door of a residence. According to authorities, when the door was opened, the dog jumped up and bit the driver’s forearm. The woman was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital for treatment.
Animal Control documented the incident but did not take the dog into custody, citing no prior bite history. Due to capacity issues at the Madison County pound, dogs involved in such incidents are being placed under home quarantine.
A Madison County Transit supervisor arrived on the scene to investigate and to wait for another driver to take over the bus route. New Alton Police Officer Nicole Liley and Animal Control officers were also present, speaking with the dog owner and the victim. Additional personnel, including an Alton Fire Department captain and an Alton Police Department officer, were involved in the response.
The investigation remains ongoing.
