To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, 10% of the cost of all brake jobs in October will go toward the Brakes for Breasts cancer research fund. Pro Automotive Services is also offering free brake pads and brake inspections. Jennifer Baggett with Pro Automotive Services emphasized the importance of giving back.

“It’s a campaign. This is our fifth year participating. It’s nationwide,” Baggett said. “Ten percent of the brake repair will go straight to the Brakes for Breasts campaign.”

Located at 1095 E. Edwardsville Road in Wood River, Pro Automotive Services offers a variety of repairs for any issue your vehicle encounters. They do plenty of brake repairs and replacements. They encourage anyone who is concerned about their brakes to stop by during the month of October to contribute to the campaign.

Brakes for Breasts was started in 2011 with six independent repair shops. These shops agreed to donate 10% of the cost of all brake repair jobs in the month of October.

This money goes to Cleveland Medical Center, which is entering its second phase of vaccine trials for breast cancer. The vaccine targets triple-negative breast cancer and is looking promising.

“They’ll start the second phase of the vaccine human trials in 2027,” Baggett explained. “They said once they unlock that key, it’s going to open up vaccines for all different types of cancer.”

Automotive shops across the U.S. join forces every October. The Brakes for Breasts campaign has raised over $2.4 million since 2011.

Five years ago, Baggett learned of the Brakes for Breasts campaign from a friend in Minnesota. Her friend encouraged her to “jump on the bandwagon with this” and contribute to the campaign.

Baggett lost her mother to breast cancer, so the cause is deeply important to the team at Pro Automotive Services. Over the past four years, they have donated nearly $8,000 to the campaign.

Baggett encourages people to stop by Pro Automotive Services for a free brake inspection and free brake pads in October. She urges people to schedule their brake repairs or replacements in the next few weeks so 10% of the cost will go toward breast cancer research.

It’s important to Pro Automotive Services to give back, and this is one opportunity for the community to join them in their mission.
