Caritas Family Solutions’ Moves Up in Rankings of Largest Nonprofits

Caritas Family Solutions has moved up its ranking of largest nonprofits in the
St. Louis region. The rankings were published in a St. Louis Business Journal report based on the 2019 fiscal year operating budget. The report shows Caritas Family Solutions’ moved from 24 to 19 on the list of the largest nonprofits in the St. Louis region with an annual operating budget of $31.6 million.


“Our growth can be attributed to the fact that we have passionate staff members and specialized service lines that are helping to achieve positive outcomes for the families, children and individuals we serve,” said Caritas Family Solutions’ CEO, Gary Huelsmann. “We currently serve more than 4,500 children, families and individuals throughout the Southern Illinois region and because of the successful outcomes we’ve been able to achieve, our referral base continues to grow.”

Caritas grew to a budget of $16 million annually in its first 68 years. The nonprofit has almost doubled in size in the last four years. Long-time board member, Dennis Jenkins, said the growth speaks to the need for their services and the quality.

“Our organization has been around for 73 years and our focus has always been on providing the best quality services for children and families throughout Southern Illinois,” said Jenkins. “Four years ago, our name changed to ‘Caritas’ but the work we do has always remained the same and I’m glad to see our organization receive this recognition.”

Caritas Family Solutions has shown steady growth over recent years and added new service lines based on needs in the communities they serve. The nonprofit’s mission is to strengthen the social and emotional wellbeing of individuals and families in order to create healthy relationships, loving homes and strong communities. The agency’s service lines include adoption, pregnancy care for women who are homeless, foster care, counseling and independent living for adults with disabilities among other service lines.
