Civic Memorial Senior Jude Breyer Earns Prestigious Illinois State Scholarship

BETHALTO - Civic Memorial High School senior Jude Breyer is closing out his high school career with a series of academic, leadership, and athletic accomplishments, highlighted by earning the Jesse W. Fell Scholarship at Illinois State University.

Breyer, a Civic Memorial student, received the scholarship from Illinois State University, where he has also been admitted into the university’s Honors Program. At Illinois State, he plans to major in English, continuing a passion he developed throughout high school.

In athletics, Breyer served as team captain of the Civic Memorial bowling team, placing fourth individually at regionals and helping lead the Eagles to a state appearance, the program’s first since 2016. He is expected to compete in the upcoming tennis season.

The Jesse W. Fell Scholarship is Illinois State University’s highest honor for incoming students and is awarded to a select group who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, leadership, character, and promise.

Breyer stands at the top of his graduating class and has been recognized as an Illinois State Scholar and Silver Medallion recipient, distinctions awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding academic excellence statewide. He was also nominated for the 2026 IHSA All-State Academic Team, an honor recognizing one male and one female student per school who exemplify achievement in academics, athletics and leadership.

Outside the classroom, Breyer serves as president of the Spanish National Honor Society and president of the Spanish Club. He is also president of the Creative Writing Club.
