BETHALTO - Waterloo defeated Civic Memorial's girls volleyball team in two sets 25-11, 25-23. CM head girls volleyball coach Jack Grimm was very pleased with how his team came alive in the second set after the slow first-set start.

"We struggled in set one," he said. "We focused in the second set on playing better quality volleyball. We simply focused on playing good volleyball with each other."
Jailyn Hunt, a junior middle hitter, was outstanding overall in the match against Waterloo, Coach Grimm said.
He said all of her hits went right to the floor on the Waterloo side and she was very strong at the net throughout the evening.
Coach Grimm also singled out Kaitlyn Ogden and Addison Jeffery for their play. Addison was strong again on the front row, he said, and Kaitlyn is closing in on the Eagles' career aces record after setting a single-season mark recently.
Waterloo has a very talented team, Coach Grimm said.
"They have a ton of talent," Grimm explained. "They are in the same boat we are; they have a lot of talent. They beat Breese Central and Breese Central is a phenomenal team and Waterloo beat them, but they have also had some shocking losses."
Civic Memorial resumes action this weekend in a tournament at Civic Memorial. On Tuesday, Oct. 20, CM plays at Jersey and the Eagles host Centralia on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026.
Waterloo, 16-11, plays again on Thursday at 18-13 Freeburg.
