Patterson joined the department in 2023 after serving with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Patterson's life-saving moves started when he was the first Collinsville officer on the scene of an aggravated battery with a firearm call in November.

According to the Collinsville Police Department, Patterson applied a tourniquet to the victim and assisted in carrying the victim to safety once additional officers arrived. Patterson then returned to the residence and successfully secured the surrender of the suspect.

The Collinsville Police Department praised Patterson for embodying the agency’s proactive philosophy and described him as a “tremendous asset” to both the department and the citizens of Collinsville.
