Community Christian Church Invites Alton to "Do Life Together" and Serve Others
Pastor Dave Burger shared more about the church and how they work to help other people as the holidays approach.

ALTON - Community Christian Church aims to bring people together to serve.
Located at 2345 Union School Road in Alton, the church offers services at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. every Sunday. Pastor Dave Burger emphasized that their goal is to spread the word of God in everything they do.
“It’s not just about Sunday mornings,” Burger said. “It’s not about sitting in a row on Sunday mornings. It’s about being a church in the everyday stuff of life and really just trying to live that out and model that and be the same people here on a Tuesday morning as we are on a Sunday morning, and just be engaged and to be good news in our community and to love people, believing everybody has that dignity, worth and value. It just becomes a family.”
The church offers a childcare center and music every Sunday. They also host Bible classes at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings.
Burger believes it’s important for the congregation to “do life together” and support one another. As the pastor, he is focused on sharing the words of the Bible. He wants to bring people closer to God.
“It’s just what the Bible says,” he explained. “We’re part of an ancient story. You don’t need my opinions. We’re here for God.”
In addition to their regular services, Community Christian Church regularly partners with local organizations like The Salvation Army and the Overnight Warming Locations. As the holidays approach, Burger shared that this work becomes especially top-of-mind for many people.
He also acknowledged that the holidays can be challenging. The church plans to dive into the Book of Daniel and Advent over the next month, and he hopes their community can bring people together and encourage peace.
“In all of our brokenness and our struggles and our hardships of all of our stories, there is one who knows us, loves us, is not surprised by any of this, and who meets us right where we are,” Burger said. “That’s encouraging this time of year.”
He added that it’s been “a great joy” engaging with the Alton-Godfrey community and seeing “how Jesus transforms people” over his last several years leading the church. He invites everyone to come out to a Sunday service at Community Christian Church and see for themselves if it could be a home for them.
