Coordinated Firefighting Effort Quells Twin Fires On Meadowlark Drive

Godfrey Fire Protection District led a multi-agency response that successfully contained two house fires with thorough search and water supply operations.

GODFREY - Area firefighters from multiple departments responded around 10 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2026, to reports of two houses on fire in the 300 block of Meadowlark Drive in Godfrey, according to Godfrey Fire Protection District Chief Eric Cranmer. Once again, all the firefighters worked in unison to quickly extinguish the fires and prevent any blaze from spreading to additional homes.

Cranmer said the initial dispatch came in as an automatic box alarm involving Alton and Fosterburg, with additional agencies brought in as the incident expanded.

“In the initial page, Alton and Fosterburg came on an automatic box alarm, and Brighton and East Alton came in the second alarm with Bethalto going to our station until we finished here,” Cranmer said.

Chief Cranmer said firefighters operated as a coordinated team, with personnel assigned to water supply and search operations.

“Everybody worked very hard," Cranmer added. "Just about every one of my guys in the Godfrey Fire Department responded. I was also very thankful for the other departments that were there.

"Everyone works so well together with the other fire departments. Fosterburg brought additional water to the scene."

The firefighters conducted multiple searches to ensure everyone was safe and out of the home.
