ALTON — The Alton Police Department announced this week that Officer Bill Reed has been named Officer of the Month for October 2025 and promoted to the rank of sergeant.
In October, Reed led a complex investigation involving violations of an Order of Protection. Recognizing the victim’s fear and need for additional support, Reed extended his efforts beyond the initial report. He coordinated with detectives, sought additional investigative resources, and followed the case through to its conclusion. His dedication contributed to ensuring the victim’s safety and holding the offender accountable.
“This level of commitment, compassion, and initiative is what makes Officer Reed stand out,” said Chief Ford during a promotion ceremony at APD Headquarters. “His work reflects the professionalism and service we strive to provide every day.”
Officer Reed is a true Difference Maker in his community.
Family, friends, fellow officers, and retirees attended the event, where Chief Ford shared stories from Reed’s career before officially promoting him to sergeant.
The Alton Police Department encourages the community to congratulate Sergeant Bill Reed on his recognition and advancement.
