WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) issued the following statement after Senate Republicans caved and voted in support of a proposal to fund the Transportation Security Agent (TSA), FEMA and other branches of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, except for ICE and Border Patrol.

“Let’s be clear: Republicans have voted against Democrats’ proposals to pay TSA agents and fund FEMA and the Coast Guard 14 times. They control the Senate, the House and the White House—and have had every opportunity to end the pain of this shutdown. Instead, they chose to punish thousands of hardworking Americans—and the travelling public—for weeks for the sins of Trump’s lawless agents. While they finally relented with this long-overdue agreement, their choices remain unconscionable.

“In the wake of the killing of two American citizens in broad daylight, Democrats have been and remain clear: we need commonsense reforms to protect Americans from being gunned down by their own government. We won’t stop pushing until we deliver the ICE and Border Patrol reforms that the American people deserve.”
