Congress cannot let this reign of terror continue.

“It is imperative that we immediately establish guardrails that protect innocent lives from being gunned down by their own government. Even before Alex Pretti was killed, I made clear that I would not vote to fund ICE or Border Patrol for another day without significant, tangible reforms—and I voted no today because effective and enforceable restrictions have yet to be secured. Democrats have outlined three very reasonable safeguards to address the atrocities we’re seeing across the country, from Chicago to Minneapolis—and it is critical that Republicans work with us over the next two weeks to enact them.

“As I have done now for months, I will also continue to demand independent investigations into these horrific killings and the egregious pattern of brutality by Trump’s agents. The Trump Administration has proven that it cannot be trusted to investigate their own untrained, unhinged agents, and it is time for Congress to force them to.

“All Americans expect and deserve a government that tells the truth and doesn’t murder its own citizens. Senate Republicans must prioritize the safety of the American people above all else and work in a bipartisan way to help us rein in Trump’s lawless agents.”
