WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today spoke with leaders and members of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) to discuss their efforts to ensure higher education remains accessible and affordable as the Trump Administration attempts to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education and the programs that support students in attending college. The Senators also discussed job training programs provided at Illinois community colleges and how they can serve as a pipeline for high-demand professions facing a workforce shortage.

“Our community colleges are an excellent resource for Illinoisans, especially those looking for job training and employment opportunities,” Durbin said. “Today, Senator Duckworth and I spoke with ICCTA leaders and members about how we can continue to support our state’s community colleges, ensuring they are accessible and affordable to those seeking higher education.”

“Our state’s community colleges are critical for Illinoisans accessing higher education and technical training as they work towards a successful career,” Duckworth said. “The Trump Administration keeps making it more difficult to afford a college education, but Senator Durbin and I are committed to helping our community colleges and students as much as we can at the federal level. Illinois has some of the best community colleges in the country, and I enjoyed meeting with so many of our great community college trustees and presidents today.”
