East St. Louis Woman Charged With Stealing Over $22,000 From Elderly Victim

EAST ST. LOUIS – An East St. Louis woman accused of stealing over $22,000 by using an elderly victim’s debit card without consent faces felonies in Madison County.

Tiffani D. Hobson, 41, of East St. Louis, was charged on Aug. 26, 2026 with one count each of theft of property over $5,000 by deception from an elderly person (a Class 2 felony), wire fraud and unlawful use of debit card (both Class 3 felonies).

From June 17 to Aug. 28, 2026, Hobson allegedly used another person’s debit card without the cardholder’s consent to obtain $22,472.90 from the victim, who was over 60 years of age at the time of the offense.

Charging documents state Hobson devised a scheme to obtain money and property by false pretenses by using the victim’s debit card to make “substantial online purchase through the internet.”

The Collinsville Police Department presented the case against Hobson, who was ordered released from custody pending trial.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
