Edwardsville Burglary Investigation Leads to Arrest of Three Suspects

EDWARDSVILLE – The Edwardsville Police Department has announced that three people have been arrested in connection with a burglary investigation at a vacant building that once served as a medical facility.

The Edwardsville Police Department said it responded to a report of a burglary in progress at 1261 University Drive in Edwardsville just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026.

"Upon arrival, officers observed a male subject fleeing the building and took him into custody," the police said. "Officers also observed a female subject retreat into the building, at which point a perimeter was established. Following an extensive search, officers located two female subjects in the building’s ductwork. Both were taken into custody."

On Friday, January 9, the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office issued a formal charging document, known as a criminal information, against the following individuals:

Jorge Alexander Miralda Castro, of St. Louis, 28 years of age

Castro’s criminal information includes the following charges:

• Count 1: Burglary (Class 2 felony)
• Count 2: Criminal Damage to Property (Class 2 felony)
• Count 3: Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine (Class 3 felony)
• Count 4: Possession of Burglary Tools (Class 4 felony)
• Count 5: Illegal Possession of Ammunition Without a FOID (Class A misdemeanor)

Castro was in custody at the Madison County Jail as of Friday, January 9.

Britney Sawyer, of St. Louis, 31 years of age

Raven Hill, of St. Louis, 37 years of age

Sawyer’s and Hill’s criminal information includes the following charges:

• Count 1: Burglary (Class 2 felony)
• Count 2: Criminal Damage to Property (Class 2 felony)
• Count 3: Possession of Burglary Tools (Class 4 felony)

Sawyer was in custody at the Madison County Jail as of Friday, Jan. 9, 2026. Hill was not in custody.

These charges, as well as the statements made herein, are based upon probable cause. The defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
