Edwardsville Police Charge Colorado Man In Elderly Financial Exploitation Case

Man accused of lying about cancer diagnosis to deceive elderly victim out of over $50,000.

EDWARDSVILLE – A Colorado Springs resident has been charged with stealing over $50,000 from an elderly Edwardsville resident by means of deception.

Nathan L. Stubblefield, 47, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was charged on March 19, 2026 with a Class 1 felony count of identity theft, a Class 2 felony count of aggravated identity theft, a Class 1 felony count of financial exploitation of an elderly person, and two Class 2 felony counts of theft.

On May 29, 2024, Stubblefield allegedly knowingly used the personal information of an Edwardsville resident to fraudulently obtain credit or a leasehold interest in real property exceeding $10,000 in value. Charging documents state the victim was 60 years of age or older at the time of the offense.

From Sept. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024, Stubblefield is accused of knowingly obtaining control of over $50,000 by means of deception while standing in a position of trust or confidence with the same elderly victim.

Stubblefield also reportedly obtained over $10,000 from the same elderly victim on two separate occasions on Sept. 11 and Dec. 4, 2024 by means of deception. Charging documents state Stubblefield caused the victim to believe Stubblefield was being treated for a cancer diagnosis, knowing that he was not in fact being treated for a cancer diagnosis.

The Edwardsville Police Department presented the case against Stubblefield, who was ordered released from custody pending trial in this case.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
