Edwardsville Police to Step Up Patrols for Thanksgiving Travel
Local officers collaborate with Illinois State Police on holiday traffic enforcement campaigns to reduce fatalities and injuries during busy travel season.
EDWARDSVILLE – The Edwardsville Police Department is joining forces with the Illinois State Police and other local law enforcement agencies as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches. As part of a focused effort to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries, Edwardsville officers will participate in the statewide "Click It or Ticket" and "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" safety campaigns.
The enforcement period will run from November 21 through December 2. During this time, in addition to our regular patrol duties, our officers will conduct concentrated patrols with a zero-tolerance policy for dangerous driving behaviors.

Officers will be actively looking for violations including:
- Seat belt and child safety restraint infractions
- Speeding
- Distracted driving
- Impaired driving due to alcohol or drugs, including cannabis
“Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel periods of the year, bringing more vehicles, longer trips, and a higher number of social gatherings. We want every family to enjoy their holiday safely. Wear your seat belt and plan a sober ride for celebrations,” said Lt. Matt Senci. This Thanksgiving enforcement effort is supported by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and aligns with Illinois’ statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Click It or Ticket” and “It’s Not a Game” campaigns.
