Edwardsville Woman Charged, Released In Reckless Firearm Discharge Case

MADISON – A woman from Edwardsville is among two people facing charges for felony weapon offenses in Madison County.

Emily D. Shea, 21, of Edwardsville, was charged on Aug. 6, 2026 with a Class 4 felony count of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Shea, or one for whose conduct Shea is legally accountable, allegedly discharged a firearm from a motor vehicle into a densely populated residential area on Aug. 3, 2026.

Charging documents state the reckless manner in which the weapon was fired endangered the bodily safety of residents in the 1200 and 1300 blocks of Washington Avenue in Madison, Ill.

The Madison Police Department presented the case against Shea, who was ordered release from custody pending trial.

21-year-old Birlwind L. Reed of Madison was charged in a separate case filed on Aug. 7, 2026 with aggravated unlawful possession of weapons, a Class 4 felony.

Reed is accused of knowingly carrying a Mini Draco AK-47 style pistol on his person without a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card or Concealed Carry License (CCL) on Aug. 5, 2026.

The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to keep Reed detained in this case, noting he was out on pretrial release conditions from a 2024 felony case at the time of this latest offense.

The petition states Reed was found armed with the weapon at a local gas station before trying to hide the weapon in the parking lot once police arrived. His attempt to conceal the weapon was reportedly captured on on video surveillance, and Reed allegedly admitted to trying to hide the gun, “saying he found it.”

Reed was ordered remaneded to jail for his initial court appearance in this case, which was also presented by the Madison Police Department.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
