Edwardsville's 'Scout' Competes in National Favorite Dog Contest

Scout is a beloved pet by her family. The family hopes she hits top five in contest.

EDWARDSVILLE — Scout, a local dog from Edwardsville, is competing in the nationwide America’s Favorite Dog competition, highlighting beloved pets and the communities that support them. The contest, which aims to celebrate the bond between pets and their owners, also benefits a charitable cause.

As of Friday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2026, Scout had risen to fifth place in America's Favorite Dog ratings, his owner said.

Danielle Schwab, Scout’s owner, said the competition has brought together friends, family, and even strangers who have rallied behind Scout, an Alaskan Shepherd.

“Scout has been a constant source of comfort and joy in my life,” she said. “Seeing the community come together to support him has been incredibly heartwarming.”

The competition invites the public to vote for their favorite dogs through a direct online link. Danielle encourages the Edwardsville community and beyond to participate in the voting process to help Scout advance in the contest.

She also expressed interest in sharing Scout’s story through local media, offering interviews and providing photos and videos to highlight the positive impact pets have on people and communities.

Schwab said Scout is about 5 years old and she loves her pet.

"He is a really good boy," she said. "He is super sweet and has a good personality. I am surprised he is in the top seven and happy, but we are hoping he gets in the top five."
