Boyd has served as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant for the past two seasons under Mark Heiderscheid, who retired at the end of the 2025 season after a 26-year career.

“As a player, I always knew I’d eventually return to Edwardsville High School and contribute to the boys’ soccer program,” said Boyd. “I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who made this opportunity possible. I understand that I have big shoes to fill, but I’m excited about the challenge ahead. I’m looking forward to making our high school and community proud of the boys’ soccer program.”

Boyd’s coaching career began in 2006 with Metro FC, now St. Louis Scott Gallagher, where he also previously played under club director Dale Schilly and Coach Mark Heiderscheid. He later served as a volunteer coach for the Edwardsville High School boys soccer program in 2008 before joining the coaching staff of the SLSG Metro Academy. Additional coaching experience includes time with the Collinsville High School boys soccer program, where he also briefly assisted with the girls program.

Throughout his career, Boyd has trained athletes at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. He spent more than eight years with EliteFT, working alongside owner Justin McMillian, and has worked with several local soccer clubs to develop players across the region.

During his EHS playing career, the new head coach helped lead the Tigers to a second-place finish at the IHSA State Tournament during his sophomore year.

Following high school, he attended Blackburn College, graduating in 2004 with a degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing and accounting. Boyd was a four-year starter for the Beavers, playing under coach Gene Baker.
