Emerson Excellence Award Spotlights Jersey School District Teacher

JERSEY — Erica Heitzig, a teacher at Jersey Community High School, has been honored with the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award for her dedication to students and commitment to the Jersey community.

Heitzig, who works within Jersey Community Unit School District No. 100, manages multiple roles, including Family and Consumer Sciences, Design, Workforce Development, and College and Career Readiness. Her efforts in these areas were cited as key factors in her selection for the award.

The Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards program annually recognizes educators across the St. Louis Metropolitan area, spanning from kindergarten teachers to college professors.

The program, sponsored by Emerson, highlights educators who exemplify excellence in their field. Recipients are chosen by the chief administrators of their respective school districts or educational institutions. Eligible institutions are located within designated counties in Missouri and Illinois, including Jersey County, where Heitzig’s school is based.

Jersey Community School District officials expressed appreciation for Heitzig’s contributions, describing her as "a significant presence within both the school and the broader community."
