Glen Carbon Buys Electric Vehicle Charging Station For Schon Park
Grant funds will cover vast majority of cost to install dual output station allowing multi-vehicle charging.
GLEN CARBON – An electric vehicle charging station is coming to Schon Park in Glen Carbon.
Glen Carbon Village Board members voted unanimously on Sept. 22, 2026 to purchase an electric vehicle charger to be installed in Schon Park. Trustees also approved a related agreement with the Electrification Coalition and Ameren Illinois.

Public Works Director Scott Slemer said the project consists of a dual output charging station.
“We’ll have dual outputs, so you’ll be able to charge two vehicles at a time,” Slemer said. “It would be centered on two parking stalls, and then the cables themselves should be able to reach to each vehicle.”
Slemer said the total cost for the charging station, concrete work and engineering totals $53,349.28, the vast majority of which will be covered by grant funding.
Ameren Illinois presented the village with a $50,000 grant towards the charging station’s installation, pending village approval of the agreement with Ameren and the Electrification Coalition. Slemer said the village currently has $25,000 budgeted for the project, more than enough to cover the difference of $3,349.28.
The agreement includes updates to the village’s Electrification Transportation Plan to reflect the future EV charger’s presence in Schon Park. Village officials are required to deliver a press release promoting the new charger as part of the village’s “transportation electrification efforts” within one month of the $50,000 grant being received.
The village has also agreed to give quarterly status reports to Ameren and the Electrification Coalition during the project’s construction, with a final report following the project’s expected completion by Dec. 31, 2028.
